IMPRINT-SENTINEL MACHINE
MONITORING
Imprint-Sentinel Machine Monitoring
has the effect of bringing the whole MIS system to life.
Factories on
weekends or 24 hour shifts may be monitored live from
a Laptop at home.
The Imprint-Sentinel is a Live-on-Line, high performance,
intelligent, monitoring system for reel and sheet fed
machines and any production unit where items may be
counted. It continuously monitors performance, automatically
identifies standing time from running time, counts
good and waste copies and maintains performance against
a
full
range of Operation Codes and compares all this information
to the targets set by Estimating via the Works Instructions.
Sentinels attach, non invasively, to any make of machine
of any age; from modern CIP3 interfaces down to
Heidelberg Platens and finishing equipment. Data Capture
itself is greatly automated by the process. Sentinel
has an
automatic understanding of what is make-ready, what
is running, what is an unexpected stoppage and Downtime
etc.
The information is also on line live (updating every
10 seconds) to the Production Control Planning Board
showing
good copy count and projected finish time, etc.
If Sentinels are attached
to further machine processes; such as folding machines
and binding lines then the
waste can be tracked throughout
the production cycle.
Main Objectives
- To remove human error from data input by
using software to deduce what is happening on machine.
-
To save Machine Managers’ time by reducing
time-recording responsibilities.
- To provide Live-on-Line data feedback to the production
planning board.
- To provide quality assurance and 24 hour machine utilisation
reports.
- To keep track of material waste and give waste control
reports.
Integrations
Estimating and Works Instructions
- Estimated performance targets via Works Instructions
are available to the Sentinel.
- Estimated target times are compared to actual times on
the performance reports.
Costing
- Sentinel data, SFDC and Manual time sheet
data, all merge to the Raw Data Files held in Costing.
Production Control
- Office viewing screens and the Production
Planning boards receive the live data from the Sentinel
every
10
seconds. The viewing may also be
seen by modem on a laptop from
home.
Features
-
Machine manager’s screen constantly shows the
Quantity Required; Running count; Run
Speed; Projected Finish time; Good Copies and the
Wasted
copy count.
- The system can measure sheets or metres and can automatically
generate bar coded pallet labels as
the work is produced.
- Jobs and/or Pallets or Reels of paper can be scanned
in by bar code. In the case of materials
this will automatically deduct from stock and book
to the job. As each reel is uniquely
numbered within
its ‘batch’ Stock
Control gives you individual reel traceability.
- Material waste reports will show such items as; Make-Ready
Waste; Running Waste; and for reel
fed presses there is Core and Slab Waste and Press-Stops
Waste, etc.
-
Being a live system, it is ‘event’ driven,
ie unexpected press stops or slow downs
can trigger warnings to
production control and works management.
- Waste and Utilisation Reports are printed both by the
Job or via a Report Generator for analysis
by a range of
criteria over any time scale.
- Quality Assurance: A sheet inspection sample quantity
can be set for each run so that the
system will warn an
operator to inspect a sheet (e.g. Every
200 or every 500). The sheet number
is recorded
with
the time
etc. and
recorded as passed or failed. Failure
reasons are recorded and a full reporting
system
shows quality
performance throughout one job or over
several jobs.
