IMPRINT WASTE CONTROL & WEIGHBRIDGES
This program is particularly designed for Web Offset,
Gravure and for very long run Sheet Fed Litho companies.
Its purpose is to monitor and report on all material wastage
and how it occurred, and to measure it against allowances brought forward from the estimated system. The Waste
Control System can handle multi-reel fed presses with
inline finishing and multiple outlet points.
The system is at its best when integrated with Imprint
Weighbridges and connected directly to the Imprint-Sentinel
system. The Weighbridge is a flat box made of stainless
steel approximately 75 mm high and comes in many sizes, from A4 up to 6 tonnes.
Typical Areas for Waste Management
- The packing waste.
- Core and slab waste on reels.
- Waste on the make-ready.
- Waste on the run (e.g. machine stoppages, plate changes,
break downs, etc.).
- And even the side trim waste taken away in air ducts
can be deduced by the software from all the
other information it has.
Waste Control without a Weightbridge
- All sheets passing through the machine are
clocked by the Sentinel sensor in sheets or metres.
-
When a Make-ready is complete and the key, ‘Zero
the counter’, is pressed so the Imprint
system knows from
its own logic that sheets counted so far are ‘Waste
on the Make-ready’.
-
If problems occur during a production run the good
copy count can be held by pressing the ‘Hold’.
Any sheets
passing through the press while on ‘hold’ will
be seen as ‘Waste on the Run’.
- The time and sheet counts are tracked and shown on all
the reports.
- If Reels or Pallets are booked direct from Stock to Sentinel
by bar code then you have individual Reel
or Pallet traceability. The waste can now be traced to
the actual Reel or Pallet it came from.
- Because the system is integrated with the whole of the
Imprint MIS system, the number of sheets
(or: reels, metres, or tonnes) issued are also known and
thus the waste can be reported in full.
Waste Control with a Weightbridge
- The Weighbridge is first set to zero and calibrated
to measure copies, or sheets, or tonnes, then as waste
is produced it is placed in the waste barrow
and continuously monitored and displayed
on the
Sentinel’s operating
screen.
- Working in conjunction with the Sentinel sensors very
accurate waste control can be produced
and showing exactly where in the printing cycle it
occurred.
- Full reports can be produced through the Report Generator,
either by job or by any range of criteria
supplied within the system.
- Because Imprint-Sentinel is integrated to the entire
Management Information System, these
reports are capable
of incorporating estimated information
and variances.
- Sentinels may be attached to finishing and despatch lines
so as to give a complete picture of
performance and waste control throughout the production
cycle and throughout the factory.
Additional features exist
for Reel Fed and long run Sheet Fed printers
- Reels and/or Pallets may be weighed and bar
code labelled in the white paper warehouse as they
are issued to
the presses. This will deduct from the
Stock File, book to the Job Cost
Sheet and give
the true weight
and/or sheet count per reel or pallet.
- On press the bar code is read and the information feeds
into the waste control system, identifying
the pallet or
reel and thus completing the information
cycle.
- On the run, slab and core waste is identified separately
from make-ready and running waste.
-
An Imprint Weighbridge can be used to weigh reels entering
Imprint’s Stock program, thus
the weight of reels
will already be known as they are supplied
to the reel stands. You will read
more about this
in the
Goods-In information sheet.
